• TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane common to commercial jobs. According to Roofing Contractor Magazine, a nationwide publication, about 58% of commercial roofing jobs use this product specifically and is forecasted to increase by the end of 2017.
It is highly attractive due to it’s cooling ability as well as its reflective UV radiation which keeps the building warmer in the cold weather and cooler during hot summer months.
• Low-Slope Asphalt products are secondary to TPO, but still popular amongst commercial users, and are ahead of metal roofing and coatings. This type is best suited for larger flat roofed applications and transitions from porches or garage areas to the main structure.
• Metal Roofing is increasing in popularity for its durability and variety in color choices, but only account for about 10% of the commercial market as of 2016.
According to State Farm Insurance, the main benefits in utilizing metal roofing are: longevity, durability, fire safety, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness
• Coatings are another option and have grown in popularity between 2015-2017 but only account for approximately 10% of the total commercial market now. Coatings are generally either silicone, acrylic, or solvent based formulas. This material tends to be more of a repair material used in temporary repairs.
